Located in the Lake District Ullswater is truly beautiful. It’s less busy with tourists than areas such as Windermere and offers a quiet retreat with great walks and nice quaint pubs for lazy lunches. It’s very close to areas such as Pooley Bridge that has nice cafés and a steamer trip that goes on the lake to Glenridding.
There is plenty to do in Ullswater such as pony trekking around the outskirts of the lake and rock climbing activities too. Most popular activities to do there include boat trips, canoeing and kayaking and there are many companies that hire out equipment on an hourly rate or alternatively where you can book an instructor and learn a new skill.
The quality of the places to eat around Ullswater really is top notch and you can find a selection of good restaurants usually within walking distance of where you stay.
Places such as ‘Inn on the lake’ have great reviews for food and also offer rooms as well so could be well worth a look.
